Bellydance is a playful, joyous style of dance that suits all ages, shapes and sizes. You are never too old, unfit or uncoordinated to give it a try! Learning to bellydance opens up a whole new world of culture, costuming and music. Come along to a class, and feel again a connection with your feminine, creative and sensual self. You can be assured that, while Jewel Bellydance maintains a strong focus on nurturing technical and artistic achievement, our classes are always fun!

Our classes are all taught by highly skilled professional dancers. Not only are our teachers beautiful and experienced performers, they also possess a wealth of knowledge on bellydance styles, related cultures and music. Class Descriptions

Bellydance Level 1

For students with little or no bellydance experience. Basic posture and technique will be taught. Choreography is not usually taught at this level.

Bellydance Level 2

For students with at least one term's experience. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of basic techniques, become more comfortable with improvising and may learn a routine.

Bellydance Level 3

Intermediate level classes introducing more complex and layered movements, varied styles of dance and improvisation. Use of props and choreography may be taught in some classes.

Bellydance Level 4

Students are comfortable with a wide vocabulary of techniques and can begin to explore their own style, improvisation, music, props and more complex choreographies.

Bollyfit! (All levels)

Bollywood dance for everyone! Bollywood incorporates elements of Indian, bellydance and hip-hop dance. Each week we'll learn modern Bollywood style combinations, set to fabulous Bollywood music. A great medium-intensity workout.

Ballet for Bellydancers

Aims to help bellydancers and others achieve awareness throughout the body - enhancing coordination, smoothing transitions and developing elegant carriage of the upper body and arms. No ballet/dance experience necessary.

Bellydance Level 2-3 Extension

Aimed at helping students transition between beginners and advanced classes. In Term 3 we’ll focus on intermediate level techniques such as undulations, ¾ shimmies and vertical figure 8’s. Taken in conjunction with level 1 or level 4 classes.

There is no casual payment, but new students may pay for one trial class before committing to full term payment, if there is space after pre-paid bookings are taken. Please contact us to check availability.
For students who cannot come to every class, you may pay for the classes you plan to attend at the standard rate of $16 per class. A minimum of 7 classes must be paid for.
For students starting part-way through the term, you may pay for the remaining weeks at the standard rate.
If you miss a class that you have paid for, you may attend any other class within the same term. NB: Missed classes cannot be rolled over to subsequent terms.
Children 12 yrs and under attending classes must be accompanied by an adult. (NB: Please do not bring along children who are not enrolled in class, except in emergency situations. Babysitting is not able to be provided.)
Strictly no refunds or roll-over of payments.
The 'student rate' is available to primary and high school students.
Level 2-3 Extension Class: Students must also enroll in Braybrook Level 1 or Level 4 classes.

What to Wear
> For Bellydance: Leotard or close fitting top; Exercise pants, leggings or full skirt; ballet shoes or jiffies are recommended, but bare feet or socks are acceptable. Bring a scarf to tie around hips (we also sell them at class).
> For Bollyfit: Comfortable exercise clothes; we recommend cushioned sneakers or dance shoes.
> For Ballet: Leotard or tight top; close-fitting exercise pants, tights or leggings; ballet shoes (no jiffies or jazz shoes; socks are OK to start).
> Don't forget a water bottle!
